The BBC are looking to hire an Accessible Technology Specialist, the candidate will need to have excellent technical experience of Access Technology applications such as Jaws, Dragon and Zoomtext as well as undertaking testing for accessibility and usability. You will assist the Head of Accessibility and Usability to ensure the BBC is fully compliant with its obligations under the Equality Act, including the Public Sector Equality Duty.

The BBC recognises the need to provide technology services that are often accessed through the use of assistive technology such as screen readers, magnifiers, voice recognition or braille devices. With a large, distributed technology support operation provided by multiple internal and external parties, the localised provision and support of such technology often requires skills and expertise not commonly found in the local support environment.

Working within the Technology Division of the BBC, reporting to the Head of Accessibility and Usability Strategy, the successful candidate will provide 3rd-line support expertise on the BBC’s core assistive technology product set, ensuring that desk-side support engineers around the UK have access to the detailed expertise needed to resolve Assistive Technology issues. Additionally the role will test applications for compatibility with the BBC’s accessibility standards. To work collaboratively with the BBC’s outsourced technology supplier (Atos) and self-provide areas to help augment existing 1st and 3rd line support services.  

(Post holder may be expected to travel throughout the UK).

The successful candidate will need to be fully versed with the Equality Act, have proven experience of providing technical support to Access Technology users within other organisations, the BBC is looking for support across the following applications Jaws, Dragon, Zoomtext, Texthelp Read and Write Gold.  As well as a clear understanding of ITIL terminology and methodology applicable to IT support services and an ability to rapidly acquire new AT software scripting/development skills and to work with new AT technologies;
