With recent mergers and acquisitions, the Society’s business continues to grow in scale and complexity. As a result, we are looking for one additional full-time lawyer to join the litigation team within our Group Legal department.

You will work closely with the Group’s Litigation Counsel and will have responsibility for managing a large case load of mortgage related professional negligence claims from across the Group. Whilst much of the case load is currently outsourced to external lawyers, you will also have the opportunity to deal with litigation in-house. Additionally, you will be able become involved in other areas covered by the team such as general commercial litigation, fraud and money laundering prevention, employment advice, complex possession matters and complaints.

You will be expected to work with limited supervision and to rapidly develop your own client relationships and you will have the ability to negotiate independently with external lawyers and others. Over time you will be expected to acquire a deep understanding of the Society’s business, culture and objectives, the context in which its operates and use this knowledge to contribute to cross-functional projects, as well as to enhance the depth and quality of your legal advice and client relationships.

If you:

Are an experienced solicitor with relevant qualifications
Are currently working either in-house within financial services or in private practice
Have recent experience conducting mortgage related professional negligence claims against solicitors
Have a general understanding of the financial services market and its regulatory framework and some knowledge of intellectual property, data protection and competition law
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
