As part of BBC Future Media, Programmes & On Demand works at the nucleus of online and connected media. Interfacing with brilliant people across the BBC, with fantastic content, and a remit to innovate, it aims to enrich lives through the next generation of connected media experiences. Based in Salford and part of Programmes & On Demand, the Mobile Platforms Core Engineering team’s primary goal is to define and build common services and components that simplify the process of building mobile experiences on behalf of the whole of BBC Online. We’re working closely with Mobile iPlayer and, as part of TV&Mobile platforms we’re instrumental to the development of Dual Screen Experiences.

We are looking for a superb Senior Software Engineer who is excited by and loves working with mobile application SDKs such as Apple iOS and Android. Equally, you’ll have relevant experience with working with web technologies such as HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and Java.

The ideal candidate must have the following;

• Real work experience in 2 or more of: Apple iOS, Android SDK, Java, C++/Objective-C, PHP, JavaScript, Flash and Python.

• Internet protocols and technologies

• A solid grounding in OOP

• An understanding of Design Patterns

• An enjoyment of working in and with high performing teams

• A constant urge to improve ways of working and best practices

• Experience with Agile/Scrum project management methodologies

• Experience of Agile development methodologies

• An appreciation of good user experience and prepared to be the users’ advocate

• An appreciation of BBC output and a passion for technology in the new media environment

• A track record of producing maintainable code within collaborative environments

• Experience of source control systems such as SVN

• Ability to rapidly acquire new software skills and to work with new technologies

• Experience of OO analysis and design
